Supporting Youth and Families in the Digital Age

Dr. Jensen will summarize the research base on adolescent technology engagement and mental health, with an emphasis on specific features and affordances of different types of technology engagement rather than "screen time." She will cover effective media parenting strategies (e.g., limit setting, monitoring, co-use), tailored to developmental stage/age. Finally, Dr. Jensen will discuss how clinicians can help clients and their families maximize potential benefits and minimize potential harms in online environments.

About the Presenter

Michaeline Jensen, PhD, is a licensed psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychology at UNC Greensboro. She obtained her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Arizona State University, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Carolina Consortium on Human Development. Her research leverages novel methods and modern communication technologies to elucidate the role of technology in youth relationship maintenance, mental health, and substance use and to uncover social-communication processes that researchers often struggle to accurately assess via self-report.
